I know that an account definitely needs to be registered in order to receive a call to that account, but a few attempts on Zoiper Premium just now to place a call using an unregistered account got cut off immediately.
This depends entirely on the server settings, some server will allow unregistered users to make calls, some won't. Try consulting with the server administrator.
