I’ve noticed that my Acer laptop gets very hot even when I’m only browsing the internet or working on simple documents. The fan runs loudly and the bottom feels hot. I've tried cleaning the vents and updating drivers, but the issue persists. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Overheating during basic tasks can often result from background processes consuming CPU resources, degraded thermal paste, or poor airflow inside the laptop chassis. Since you’ve already cleaned the vents and updated drivers, here are a few additional steps you can try:

Check Background Processes
Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for apps or services that are using excessive CPU. Disable or uninstall unnecessary startup programs.

Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
Visit Acer’s support website and ensure your BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. These updates can improve thermal and fan management.

Replace Thermal Paste
If your laptop is a few years old, the thermal paste between the CPU/GPU and heatsink may have dried out. Reapplying fresh thermal paste can greatly improve cooling.

Use a Cooling Pad
A laptop cooling pad helps improve airflow and can significantly reduce temperature during use.

Consider Professional Maintenance
Sometimes the issue lies deeper (e.g., failing fan or internal hardware). A technician can help with a full teardown and diagnosis.
