Are there a mode that dose not SIP server?

I am thinking of a basic VoIP system without a SIP server. I know the host name of the correspondent phone device which is always in the same private network. Is there a mode that uses DNS instead of a SIP server?

An application we need is a normal business phone.

I can resolve an IP addresse of a corresponding phone device with a DNS server.

I want SIP service provided by SIP protocol, but I do not need SIP proxy server.
