Zoiper3 for desktop has a built-in "Audio Wizard", which provides tests for both speakers/ microphone and camera.

You can find it under Zoiper -> Settings -> Audio Wizard.

Yes, and that works when I talk to myself.  I have since learned that Zoiper can grab a bad line.  Once it does it does not easily release that line.  AND it only took 3.5 hours to troubleshoot from i/net provider to GeekSquad.  Made sense, as I had several "we can't hear you calls" in a row.
